AGILITY RUNS – 4 CORNER BALL

AIM
To develop multi-directional explosive agility, turn mechanics and running mechanics.

AREA / EQUIPMENT
Indoor or outdoor area of about 10 square yards. Place 5 markers, 1 on each corner and 1 in the middle of the square. Tennis racket.

DESCRIPTION
Players start at the centre marker E, then accelerates out to and around marker A and back to marker E. The player then completes the drill by going out and around markers B, C and D (this is 1 repetition).

KEY TEACHING POINTS
• Maintain correct running form / mechanics
• Use strong arm mechanics both with and without the ball
• Keep tight to the markers on the turns
• Work off the balls of the feet

SETS AND REPS
3 sets of 2 reps with 1 minute recovery between reps and 2 minutes recovery between sets.

VARIATION / PROGRESSIONS
• Player runs through the circuit while controlling the ball with the racket.
• Place a tennis ball on each outer marker A, B, C and D. Player sprints to the marker, scoops up the ball and returns it to marker E. This is continued for all four balls.
