SAQ® Diploma in Sports Team Management
This module examines the history of management as well as looking at the functions of a team manager, team building and the importance of team meetings. It also looks at the issue of stress and time management which can be heavy burdens on individual team managers and illustrates methods of coping with both probelms.
In this module the course looks at the definition and elements of leadership, the theory of leadership, as well as at the important issues of leadership, styles, qualities and types. The module also looks at game analysis and the importance of a game plan.
In this module the important issue of the planning process is discussed as well as looking at the vital roles played by organisation and control in the management of teams. Other key elements discussed include motivation, goalsetting, and team discipline.
In Module 4, we look at sports psychology in general before moving on to such elements as mental preparation, team psychology, mental toughness and overcoming anxiety to improve performance. The final issue for the manager is the pyschological impact that injuores can have on different players.
In this module we examine the importance of and training methods for developing the 6 key components of fitness - speed, strength, stamina, supplenss, psychology and skill. The module also examines how the Principles of Training cna be used to ensure the maximum benefit is acheved by the training programme.
In this important module we look at the needs of the players, the demands of the game as well as isues such as anatomival adaptation, warm-up, cool-down and and flexibility developement. It also looks in depth at the theory and practicie of speed, agility, stamana, strength and power development.
In module 7 of the course we look at ways the manager can use to plan (or periodise) the yearly training programme so that the overall result wll be improved perfrormance. We also look at the vital issue of recovery and fitness. Simple yet effective fitness tests are suggested to control the progress of the overal training programme.
This module is optional and is open to all students who wish to achieve the award for the overall SAQ® Diploma in Sports Team Management. A written 2500 word assignment is prescribed and must be completed within 4 weeks. Guidelines on how to undertake the task are given.
