Workout 7

DRILL MOVEMENT CIRCUIT

AIM
To develop running patterns, likely to be encountered in a game of tennis.

AREA / EQUIPMENT
Half a tennis court, indoor or outdoor area. Tennis racquet, tennis ball. Markers, hurdles, Fast Foot Ladders and poles. These are all to be placed in a circuit within the area. See Fig 1

DESCRIPTION
Players follows a direction that will take them through ladder, stepping and jumping over hurdles, sidestepping through markers, running backwards, jumping and turning. NB: one circuit should take the players 30-60 seconds to complete.

KEY TEACHING POINTS
• Maintain correct running form / mechanics for all activities

SETS AND REPS
1 set of 6 reps with a varied recovery time between each rep depending on the stage in the season.

VARIATIONS / PROGRESSIONS
• At certain points within the circuit introduce a tennis ball to be hit using different types of shots, etc.
• Vary the circuit and the drills on a regular basis, using imagination and tennis knowledge. See Fig 2
